Trichy
Situated on the banks of river Kaveri Trichy also known as tiruchirappalli is a fine blend
of temples and monuments. It is a pilgrim centre, 325 kms from Madras, dominated by the
granite rock soaring 84 metres into the skyline. It is also famous for artificial
diamonds, cigars, handloom cloth, glass bangles and wooden and clay toys. The fourth
largest city in the state was a citadel of the Early Cholas which later fell to the
Pallavas. Trichy lies 320 km to the south of Chennai, on the banks of the Cauvery. Trichy
itself, has a long history, going back to the centuries before the Christian era, when it
was a Chola citadel.
